I have a Canon EOS 450D (I'd like a better one but I can't justify the expense!). I used to have an EOS 300D and I also have a Canon Powershot G9 compact (which is amazing). My first digital slr was an Olympus but compared to the Canons it was shockingly bad. I have friends who work(ed) on the picture desk of some of the big British newspapers and the pros all swear by Nikon and Canon and here hear good things about the Nikon D40 but if you already have a film SLR you could save a lot of money on lenses by getting the same make.
The main problem with all of them is they aren't cheap but when I was selling my old one (I sold it for 120 Euros with the lens in the end) I was told that EBay was a good place for bargains.
I've left the pictures at their biggest size (in the fullsize view) so that they can be more useful when others want to use them (i.e just take parts from a picture) but I'll change them in the future
